The Prosper Lincoln focus area of Employment Skills has the goal of ensuring access to training and support for skilled in-demand jobs. United Way of Lincoln/Lancaster County also understands that having a good job is a key to helping a family out of poverty.
The local United Way looks at ways to incorporate United Way Worldwide goals into local impact. United Way’s focus on Income includes a three-prong approach that addresses workforce development, teaches money management skills and offers supports for basic needs as a way to help families have financial stability.
“Evidence indicates theses three strategies are most effective when delivered together rather than independently and have proven to increase economic mobility of those along the income continuum living below 200% of the poverty line,” said Wende Baker, Senior Director of Community Impact at United Way.
United Way is offering the opportunity for nonprofit programs to apply for funding in the areas of workforce development and money management skills to add to their current strategy of funding basic needs. This will aim to improve the economic mobility of the most vulnerable local residents.
Some funding is set aside already but more may become available. “The more successful United Way’s campaign is, the more funding will be available,” said Baker. “Donor support of United Way’s Income focus is what will help build capacity for families in our community.”
Nonprofits with proven, measurable programs are invited to learn more. Letters of intent for the new funding strategies will be accepted through November 17. Those interested in applying should contact Maggie Montoya at mmontoya@unitedwaylincoln.org or 402-441-7774 for more information.
