Year 1 Employment Skills Successes (2016)

1. Case Manager & Employer Job Fair and tours – Almost everyone in Lincoln has a job. The challenge for Bryan Seck and Mike Milbourn is to connect people from part-time, low-wage jobs into a career that can create financial stability. Sixty-five case managers from 25 agencies and 17 employers connected at a job fair in October. Many case managers have over 100 people on their caseload. Now, case managers receive direct emails from employers with new openings and take monthly employer tours (at Duncan Aviation, Cabela’s, Bryan Health and more) to understand the best possible career pathway positions for their clients.
In April, we will have the second Case Manager and Employer Job Fair. Interested in joining as an employer or case manager? Email Bryan Seck.

2.  Lincoln Business Task Force – The Task Force brings together Veterans Affairs, Vocational Rehabilitation, ResCare Workforce Services, Department of Labor, Lutheran Family Services, the American Job Center and others that actively collaborate with employers to hire their participants. As a unified effort, the Task Force reaches out to Lincoln’s leading employers with one voice to share about opportunities for hiring and benefits of collaboration such as paid work experience, paid training, tuition reimbursement and case management. We will connect people from part-time jobs to available and needed full-time careers in our community.

3. Lincoln’s American Job Center helps all residents get on a career pathway. Did you know it has benefits for employers as well? – Prosper Lincoln and the City of Lincoln’s American Job Center (AJC)/One Stop System collaborate to increase awareness of services right here in Lincoln. Anyone in Lincoln can walk into the AJC and receive help looking for a job online, updating their resume and gaining new skills through computerized learning. The AJC also offers benefits to employers to hire participants and help them grow into a stable and successful career. The AJC offers amazing benefits and Prosper Lincoln is proud to share about these efforts with the community, employers, places of faith, nonprofits and professional associations to ensure and amplify their use in our community. Employers want to hire – people just need to know where to look and what skills are needed.
