Early Childhood Success Story

Connecting the Prosper Lincoln Pillars

As a long-time participant in Everett Elementary School’s family literacy program, Rosa refined her English literacy skills and visited her children’s classrooms to see how they were learning, so she could help them with homework. When the new Family Learning opportunity came along, Rosa didn’t hesitate to join.

The goals of the program were to increase family mentoring, service learning, and parent and family time together. While Rosa was participating in the family program offerings, her children enjoyed high quality childcare, preschool and school age services.

As her English literacy skills increased, Rosa began to give back to the school community in concrete, visible ways. Along with other parents, she led a popular afterschool Community Learning Center session called “Games From Around the World.” She also created a video of her story that was shared with Everett students and staff at an all-school assembly. It helped students see that efforts pay off.

Rosa pointed out that her children have become strong learners who love to read and use the library. She credits the high quality early childcare that her children enjoyed.

As her confidence grew, she began to think about how she could reach her dream of owning a business. With courage, persistence and determination, Rosa opened her own business called Neveria Letty’s, an ice cream and snack shop located at 1247 South 11th Street. We invite you to stop by!
